There’s no questioning that the SEC has reigned over the NCAA for the past seven years when it comes to college football. The question is who can take them off there throne this year? There are three teams, as of this post, that I believe are contenders capable of ousting the SEC power house known as Alabama.
First lets start with Oregon and there #1 rushing team lead by Marcus Mariotta at QB. They have been blazing the top ranks in offense, but what most people don’t know, is they have the #4 ranked defense as well. The question for them will be can they score the same way on a overly capable SEC defense like Alabama’s. As much as I like what’s happening in Oregon, I don’t think that they will. Not only do I think there offense isn’t going to put up as much numbers, I don’t think there defense will hold up to the pressure either.
Next up is Clemson and there well coached team capable of upsetting any team in the NCAA. There overall averages are top 20 at best, but they have consistency. They know what there strong and weak points are and they are continuing to work on those every week. A game between them and Alabama would go to the trenches and be a 4 quarter game with a close score. Tajh Boyd is continuing to grow and get even more comfortable with his wide range of threats. If this stays on pace look at Clemson to be top 2 at the end of the BCS season and playing for a national title!
Finally and my favorite, although a bit biased pick, The Ohio State University. Some say there schedule is weak, or they are over hyped. I say lets look at the facts. They have a 17-0 unbeaten record which is more then a few games higher then any team in the NCAA. Not only do they have one dual threat QB in Braxton Miller, but Kenny Guitton as well. Both those QB’s have proved they can be consistent and put up big numbers. Can you say Urban Meyer! The amount of energy and pride that this coach brings to a team is unremarkable. Going back to the SEC reign everyone that knows NCAA Football remembers his back to back championships for Florida and what he brings to the table all season and bowl games! I haven’t even started on The Ohio State Defense, which, as this post, is #23 along with there #2 rushing yards and #7 points. Alabama could still come on top if they play against the Buckeyes’ weaknesses. Right now that would be the lack of there talented safety Christian Bryant on defense. Alabama would prove to be a tough competition if they get ahead of the pass defense early on in the game.
All in all, those are my three favorite teams to beat and topple the SEC reign this year. Feel free to post your thoughts and opinions below.
