They say that everything is bigger in Texas. That saying holds true with this weekends match up of the Red River Rivalry at the Texas state fair in Dallas, Texas. This match up puts number 12 ranked Oklahoma against a struggling Texas Longhorns team. With the Sooners winning the last three matchups, this has to be a statement game for Texas.
Sooners quarterback Blake Bell has been playing with a chip on his shoulder this year, after backing up Landry Jones last year. However, the strong point thus far in the Sooners season has been their tough defense. Last week Oklahoma didn’t give up a first down to TCU until the middle of the third quarter.
With coach Mack Brown feeling the heat of being fired, Offensive Coordinator Major Applewhite believes that the Longhorns and their up-tempo offense can surprise the Sooners. With quarterback David Ash still out with a concussion on Tuesday at practice, Case McCoy will have to step up and throw the ball, which isn’t his strong point.
Even with Texas playing poorly this year, they are in a three way tie for first place in the Big 12. A win this weekend against Oklahoma should be more than enough to make Longhorn fans happy, and keep Mack Brown safe for now.
